Partners Align for the Next Phase at Zagreb Consortium Meeting

The recent Consortium Meeting, hosted by the School of Medicine at the University of Zagreb, marked another successful milestone in the project’s journey, bringing together partners from across Europe and beyond to align on key priorities and accelerate progress.

Over the two days, participants engaged in lively and productive sessions covering data management, AI development, clinical integration, and ethical considerations. The meeting kicked off with updates on the training dataset configuration and AI model progress. Decisions were made to refine dataset splits and support future model development by integrating clinical data at a later stage.

The legal and regulatory landscape was another focus, with agreements reached to streamline data sharing across partners, respecting both GDPR and site-specific requirements. Clear next steps were outlined for validation and compliance, ensuring a solid foundation for collaboration moving forward.

Clinical data workflows were reviewed, with emphasis on harmonising data structures and improving upload procedures. A follow-up session will help clinical sites align on folder formats and technical compatibility. In parallel, work on baseline models and image-based predictions continues, with several centres contributing valuable datasets.

On the technical side, progress was shared on segmentation models, explainability tools, and quality control mechanisms. Partners also discussed the importance of tracking model drift and improving transparency, with ongoing work on the AI Passport and Decision Support System.

Sessions on human-in-the-loop (HIL) strategies, robustness and fairness brought ethical and usability considerations to the fore. Plans are underway to better integrate clinician feedback, ensure independence in decision-making, and evaluate AI tools in real-world clinical settings.

The final sessions addressed cost-effectiveness, regulatory planning, and the wider impact on clinical guidelines and healthcare systems. Efforts on dissemination and communication are gaining momentum too, with updated materials planned for upcoming conferences and discussions around creating new visual content to support outreach.

A special thank you goes to all partners for their dedication and insight, and to the organising team at the University of Zagreb for their exceptional hospitality and smooth coordination.

As we look ahead, the consortium is energised by the strong spirit of collaboration and shared purpose — with clear steps in place and exciting work on the horizon.
