Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine has a rightly earned reputation for being not only a leader in medical studies but also national and international research and publication. The Faculty ranks as the first in Türkiye in internationally cited publications.
Department of Radiology provides service at Hacettepe Adult Hospital, Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital, and Hacettepe Oncology Hospital. All radiologic imaging procedures as well as interventional radiology services in the scope of modern medicine are performed by the experienced and specialized staff, particularly the academic staff and instructors of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Radiology.
Our Breast Imaging Unit is located in the Oncology Hospital, where a high turnover of outpatients and inpatients are referred as a reference hospital. At our unit, we have two digital mammography units, one of which is capable of performing contrast-enhanced mammography, two ultrasound units, a 1.5 Tesla MRI unit and a prone table for strerotactic vacuum biopsies. Two professors and an associate professor experienced in breast imaging are serving for patient care as well as the education of residents and medical students.
Hacettepe group participates in data preparation for radiomics evaluation, evaluation of radiomics robustness and fairness, real-world clinical usability and explainability, applicability over time in routine clinical practice, impact on clinical guidelines and healthcare implementation, socio-ethical implications, regulatory implications and plans for radiomics AI in clinical oncology and radiomics information and communication package. Collaboration with Hacettepe group will provide sharing of knowledge and huge expertise in oncologic imaging and treatment.
Deniz Akata is Professor of Radiology in Hacettepe University, Ankara, Türkiye. Her expertise is in abdominal imaging and in oncologic imaging of the female genitalia and abdomen.
She is the author or co-author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and editor and co-editor of two books. She has given many lectures for international and national distinguished organizations. She served as a member of the program planning committees and organizer of numerous meetings at the international and national level, including, ECR, Balkan Congress of Radiology, European School of Radiology (ESOR), TURKRAD and Multislice CT annual meetings. She served as Chair of the National Societies Committee and the Chair Finance and Internal Affairs Committee in the European Society of Radiology (ESR). She is also at the Executive Council of the International Society of Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3r). She is a member of Turkish Society of Radiology, ESR, ESGAR, ESUR and IS3r.
Dr. Figen Demirkazık is a Professor of Radiology in Hacettepe University, School of Medicine, Department of Radiology. After graduating from Hacettepe University, School of Medicine in 1987, she completed her residency program in 1992 in the Department of Radiology, Hacettepe University. She has been working in the same department as an academic staff since then and was promoted to full professorship in 2003. Her expertise is in breast imaging, thoracic radiology and oncologic imaging.
During her academic carrier she visited Royal Marsden and Guy’s hospitals in London and Virginia Commonwealth University, Yale University and Nebraska University hospitals in USA. She has published around 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member or Turkish Society of Radiology and Turkish Society of Thoracic Radiology.
Dr. Meltem Gülsün Akpınar is a Professor of Radiology at Hacettepe University, School of Medicine, Department of Radiology. She graduated from Hacettepe University, School of Medicine in 1994 and completed her residency at the Department of Radiology, Hacettepe University in 2000. She has worked in the same department as an academic staff since then and was promoted to full professorship in 2010. She worked as a clinical fellow and visiting associate professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin in the USA.
Her expertise is in breast imaging, thoracic radiology, and oncologic imaging. She has around 50 papers published in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of the Turkish Society of Radiology and the Turkish Society of Thoracic Radiology.
Dr. Gamze Durhan is an Associate Professor of Radiology at Hacettepe University, School of Medicine, Department of Radiology. She graduated from Hacettepe University, School of Medicine in 2007 and completed her residency at the Department of Radiology, Hacettepe University in 2013. She has worked in the same department as an academic staff since 2017 and was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 2021. Her expertise is in breast imaging, thoracic radiology, and oncologic imaging.
During her academic carrier, she visited Graz University in Austria. She has around 40 papers published in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of the European Society of Radiology, the Turkish Society of Radiology, the Turkish Society of Thoracic Radiology.
