RadioVal Highlighted at “Creating Knowledge through Participatory Research” Conference in Brussels

RadioVal was proudly highlighted in Miriam Cabrita’s presentation at the “Creating Knowledge through Participatory Research” conference, organised by Open.Lab Brussels. Representing SHINE 2Europe, Miriam shed light on the organisation’s significant contribution to fostering multi-stakeholder engagement within Horizon Europe projects.

A Collaborative Approach to Innovation in RadioVal

Within the RadioVal project, SHINE 2Europe developed and implemented a social innovation framework centred around three iterative rounds of multi-stakeholder sessions. These sessions brought together a diverse group of stakeholders -healthcare professionals, patients, researchers, and policymakers, fostering collaboration to:

  • Identify critical challenges in the integration of AI within clinical settings.
  • Co-develop practical solutions that address real-world healthcare needs.
  • Map out pathways for the ethical and trustworthy implementation of AI in clinical practice.

Insights on Participatory Research in Complex Projects

During her presentation, Miriam reflected on the intricacies of applying participatory methodologies in international, multidisciplinary contexts. She emphasised the importance of adaptability, inclusive communication, and cultural sensitivity to effectively bridge diverse organisational and cultural perspectives.

Aligning Technology with Ethical and Practical Needs

RadioVal stands as a powerful example of how early stakeholder involvement can align technological innovation with practical requirements and ethical values. By embedding diverse perspectives into the development process from the start, the project ensures that its AI solutions are both innovative and trustworthy, addressing the needs of real-world users.

SHINE 2Europe’s work in RadioVal highlights its commitment to advancing social innovation and participatory research, setting a benchmark for Horizon Europe initiatives aimed at delivering tangible societal benefits.
