On 3 October 2024, the RadioVal project was featured in two key sessions during the third day of the EU Week for Sustainable and Inclusive Communities in Brussels. The event, titled “The Future is SHAFE,” attracted around 180 participants, focusing on innovative solutions for building healthy and sustainable communities.
The first session, “Implementing Societal Missions – Policy and Organisational Enablers and Challenges,” was led by Carina Dantas from SHINE 2Europe, alongside representatives from two RadioVal partners: Medical University Gdansk and Maggioli SPA. Carina opened the session by emphasising the importance of establishing clear missions and strategic frameworks to achieve societal goals, particularly in the fight against cancer. Following her, Gianna Taskou of Maggioli SPA highlighted the value of collaborative networks, such as AI4Health, from which the RadioVal project originated, in fostering innovation and driving impactful initiatives. Maciej Bobowicz from Medical University Gdansk shared insights from RadioVal’s engagement with breast cancer patient associations, stressing the importance of collaboration between experts and patients in developing effective healthcare solutions.
Later in the day, Miriam Cabrita (SHINE 2Europe) moderated the roundtable discussion “Trustworthy AI – Ethics, Legal, and Regulatory Aspects in Practical Use Cases,” which featured four speakers, including Ira Haavisto from the Nordic Healthcare Group. Miriam introduced RadioVal’s social innovation framework, which actively involves diverse stakeholders in the development of trustworthy AI systems. Ira provided practical examples from RadioVal on how to address legal and regulatory challenges when developing AI-powered healthcare tools. After the presentations, the panellists discussed the challenges and opportunities for scaling AI solutions in healthcare, offering both local and national perspectives from their respective fields.
These sessions showcased the collaborative efforts of RadioVal partners and highlighted the project’s transdisciplinary approach, bringing together expertise from multiple sectors to address some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare today.
