On 29 May, Miriam Cabrita from SHINE 2Europe presented the RadioVal project’s social innovation strategy at the national conference Innovation and Sustainability: The Great Social Challenges. The event gathered over 100 participants from across the innovation ecosystem, including researchers from both the technical and social sciences, policymakers, as well as healthcare and innovation practitioners.
Miriam’s presentation highlighted the project’s strong commitment to multi-stakeholder engagement since its inception. Speaking as part of the panel Health, Literacy and Artificial Intelligence, she outlined the four rounds of social innovation sessions conducted to date, which have engaged more than 170 stakeholders. These sessions have played a critical role in identifying real-world needs, expectations, and ethical concerns surrounding the use of AI tools to predict responses to neo-adjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer treatment. She also described the structured methodology being used to translate these diverse perspectives into concrete, actionable requirements to inform the development and implementation of RadioVal’s AI solutions.
The panel also featured Carina Dantas (SHINE 2Europe), who presented strategies for public involvement in research, drawing on examples such as IHI READI, LIVERATION, and EUonQoL, and served as the session moderator. Additional contributions came from Maria João Cardoso, who shared insights from the CINDERELLA project, and Anderson Carmo, who introduced the XShare and XiA projects.
Together, these presentations underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration in shaping AI-driven health innovations that are ethical, meaningful, and widely accepted by the communities they aim to serve.
